1. Education Vehicle

The Service first introduced a dedicated Community Fire Safety Vehicle in 1992. This original vehicle had previously been the Chemical Incident Unit but had reached the end of its operational life. Following modifications, the converted vehicle was launched in Eastbourne at the Fire '92 Exhibition. It was mainly intended for use as a teaching tool for children, a fact emphasised by the use of cartoon characters on the vehicle's exterior.

As the decade unfolded, the 'CFSV' became more and more expensive to maintain, so in 1998, it was decided to commission a purpose built vehicle as a replacement. Following an extensive research and design period, the contract to build the vehicle was awarded to specialist coach builders Bailey's of Stoke-on-Trent.

The new vehicle has been designed to allow maximum flexibility of use. Removable bench seating for up to 35 people means it can be used for classroom style presentations or as a walkthrough gallery space. The inclusion of a public address system and a fully opening side panel means it can be at the centre of large scale public events. The provision of a Ratcliff Dual Purpose Lift makes the vehicle accessible to all members of the community. State of the art information systems have been integrated to enable adaptable and professional presentations to be made. A 42 inch Plasma Screen has been installed to allow for presentations whatever the ambient light levels.

The exterior graphics have been designed to appeal to all members of the community, not just children.

The Service received part sponsorship from SEEBOARD for this vehicle.

2. Hazard House

Donated to the Service by the East Sussex, Brighton & Hove Health Authority, Hazard House is a towing trailer that is designed to educate members of the public in all domestic safety matters. Hazard House was refurbished during 2000 and attends Community Fire Safety events across the county. The trailer has proven to be a very popular Community Fire Safety tool.
