Javascript

Javascript is a facility whereby enhanced features can be added to web pages.

This website site uses Javascript in a number of places but remains fully functional if Javascript is disabled by the user.

If Javascript is turned off some page formating may be affected and the side menus will remain fully expanded however, the content will not be affected.

Users running screen readers may find it useful to turn Javascript off, this will ensure that all submenu items in the left hand menu on each page are fully displayed and can be read out. However the high visibility and text resizing options will not function with Javascript turned off.

Portable Document Format (PDF)

Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format created for document exchange.

PDF is used for representing two-dimensional documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system and there are many documents on this website that have been created as pdfs.

PDFs are identified, along with the size of the PDF, throughout this website like this [pdf, 112K, opens in new tab]

As indicated all PDFs open in a new tab. However users may use their browser's setting to open PDFs in a new window or within the current window/tab

A reader, which is required to display PDFs, can be downloaded from adobe.com® - External Link

Accessibility toolbar

Available at the top of every page with these options

  • Skip to main content (see also access keys). This option moves the cursor and focus to the start of the main content of the current page, useful in conjunction with screen and text readers.
  • Accessibility options is a link to this page
  • A | A | A
These are the three optional user selectable display sizes. These options allow users to resize the text on the pages. These options do not resize the images or other objects, however users can zoom in or zoom out the pages using the built-in functionality available in all new browsers (including Firefox, Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome etc.) Please note that browser's built-in zooming facility increases or decreases the whole display size, not just the text, this may cause images and videos in particular to become blurry, if zoomed extensively. In most browsers 'Control +' can be used to zoom-in, and 'Control -' to zoom-out. 'Control 0' sets the display back to the default size. Please consult the documentation accompanying your browser to establish the correct and detailed functionality.
  • Default colours , sets the display colours to the default website colours
  • High contrast colours, set the display to a high visibility colour scheme.

Screen readers

Each page has been optimised for working with screen and text readers.
