Hate Crime

What is a hate incident?

Examples of hate incidents include:
  • Verbal or written abuse
  • Harassment or intimidation
  • Damage to property
  • Physical assault
  • Text or emails

Hate Crimes are crimes and incidents motivated through hatred or prejudice of:

  • Race, ethnicity or nationality
  • Religion or belief
  • Sexual orientation
  • Disability
  • Gender identity

By reporting Hate crimes and Hate incidents you may be able to prevent these from happening to someone else.

Why is it important to report hate incidents and crimes?

It is really important that if you are experiencing a hate incident or crime, or you have witnessed an incident, that you report it.

Then we can work out, with you, how we can help and work with partners to try and address the problem.

By reporting hate incidents and crimes you are also helping us identify where the problem areas are and how we can improve our services to deal with crime.

Who should report hate crimes?

You should report a hate incident if:

  • you are the victim
  • you have witnessed an incident
  • you know someone who was the victim of an incident

How to report a hate incident

In an emergency always dial 999.
