Responding to Emergencies

Fire Stations

There are 24 Fire Stations in East Sussex. A brief history of all our Stations, their contact details and the Station Action Plans are available on our Fire Stations Page along with details of other key Service premises.

Many of those Stations have a long history and a strong community spirit and some of them promote events and publish details of their history online, one example of which is the Friends of Hove Fire Station Page.

Firefighting Equipment and Roles

The Service deals with fire, road and rail accidents, chemical hazards and many other situations where its expertise and equipment can be used to save lives, reduce suffering or protect property and the environment. The vehicles and equipment represent the latest in technology and offer a diverse range of facilities to deal with any emergency. A small selection of the equipment used by ESFRS is described in detail on our Equipment Page.

In 2007, as a direct result of the large amount of equipment that was written-off at the Marlie Farm incident, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service initiated a project to replace those vehicls and upgrade its fleet. Further details of this major undertaking can be found on the Vehicle Replacement Project Page.

Firefighter roles and how to identify a role through uniform and helmet markings is provided on our Firefighter Roles Page.

FiReControl and FireLink Projects

FiReControl is a National project looking at the Fire & Rescue Service's existing mobilising and communications facilities. FireLink is a task group set up by the Government to buy and implement a nationwide radio system for the Fire & Rescue Service. Both projects impact ESFRS and details are available on our FiReControl/FireLink Page.

Integrated Risk Management Planning

The use of Integrated Risk Management (IRM) allows Fire Authority to make more effective and economical use of existing resources to meet local demands and places full emphasis on protection of 'life' rather than buildings. It also allows Fire Authority to explicitly provide their resources to deal with a much wider range of incidents than fire. Every year we publish an IRM Plan and enter into a period of consultion with the Public on what is proposed. To find out more read our IRMP Pages.

Mobilising & Communications Centre

The Mobilising and Communications Centre is the hub of the Service. All 999 emergency calls requesting the Fire & Rescue Service and originating within East Sussex are routed to this centre.
