Thinking of you all at this sad time. Many don't realise what risks we put ourselves at just going to work.

As a teacher at Tideway School, Newhaven I was deeply saddened to hear of the terrible events in Ringmer.

Our school was devastated by fire in 2005 and Brian filmed the fire for the Brigade. His pictures have appeared in the news since then and remain as a record of this appalling incident. Hopefully they will help to avoid other schools having to go through what we have since the fire.

At the time of the fire we were rehearsing the school play, which went ahead in spite of the fact that the Drama Department could not be saved. Local fire-fighters from Newhaven were invited to one of the performances and a collection was held for the Fire Services Benevolent Fund.

I am proud to say that we held another collection for the Memorial Fund after the fire at Ringmer and the generosity of our students, giving whatever money they had with them on the day, was very touching.

This is little comfort for any family after such an awful event, but please know that we are thinking of you.

Words cannot explain the way we all feel,
Questions unanswered, wounds left to heal,
Why how you left us, in the blink of on eye,
No time left for us to say our goodbye.
We all know the job Sub, and what it can ask,
None of us ever would shirk from the task.
Rest easy at peace friend, all will be right,
We'll watch over your loved ones, though you have passed from sight,
Though tears we shed now, we will and just might,
Become stronger, supportive and care,
Worries we'll voice up, discuss and share,
Be peaceful in passing, we miss you it's true,
But in times to come, when the job's there to do,
With a tear in our eye and strength in our heart,
We'll complete the tasks we've been sent to start,
Look upwards and pass a quite spoken prayer,
To our lost friend above us,
Guiding us with his care.
RIP Geoff - Thanks friend

I did not know the two men, but I feel the loss just like all firefighters do.I hope as the weeks go by the families gain strength from the support of those around them. Take care and be assured that the Fire Service will always be there in times of need.
