The first new fire appliance arrived at Barcombe community fire station on Tuesday 12th February 2008. The new fire appliance is the first of fourteen new fire appliances that will be distributed across East Sussex and the City of Brighton & Hove, following the explosion at Marlie Farm in December 2006. The new vehicle incorporates some of the most advanced technology in the world. The new Volvo FLL-15 model fire appliance has a 7 litre 280 BHP diesel engine that is compliant with Euro 5 legislation. Euro 5 is an emission control standard to which all manufacturers must comply. As European legislation does not come into force until September 2009, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service are demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection by early introduction. Stephen Brown, Engineering Services Manager, commented, "The new fire appliances are the result of months of design work and collaboration and are set to be a ground-breaking success. I would like to thank everybody involved in the project, including the crews from Barcombe community fire station for their continued hard work and dedication." |
