10th Anniversary of the Fire Victim Support Unit

On 26th February the Red Cross Fire Victim Support Unit celebrated 10 years of working in partnership with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

The Fire Victim Support Unit works with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and attends fires and serious incidents to provide essential care and emotional support to victims. The volunteers offer assistance in the form of emotional or practical support such as providing refreshments, clothing, hygiene packs, blankets and advice on the way forward after an incident.

A barbeque to celebrate the anniversary was held at Bohemia Road Fire Station in Hastings, which is where the partnership was formed exactly a decade ago. The Unit has been based at the station ever since. Brian Pope, the original founder of the Red Cross Fire Victim Support Unit attended the event, alongside Red Cross volunteers and firefighters from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
