National no smoking line

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is encouraging people to give up smoking on National No Smoking Day, which takes place on the 12th March 2008.

Smoking can have a damaging effect on your health and those around you and smoking materials can be a serious fire hazard.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service offers the following safety advice:

  • Make sure you have completely extinguished smoking materials before leaving the house or going to bed.
  • Don't empty ashtrays into bins; place them in a metal container, preferably outside.
  • If you are tired or have consumed alcohol and are alone in a room, try to avoid smoking.
  • Don't smoke in bed.

It is important that the appropriate fire safety procedures are followed to reduce the risk of fire.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service can offer fire safety advice and smoke alarms for you and your family. For further information contact East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Community Safety Team on 0800 1777069. For help with giving up smoking call the Smoking Quitline on 0800 002200.
