Arson is a crime! |

A new campaign to tackle deliberate fire setting in East Sussex and the City of Brighton and Hove is being launched at Lewes Prison on Wednesday 12th March. East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service in partnership with Sussex Crimestoppers have created leaflets to raise awareness of the dangers of Arson and promote the Crimestoppers helpline, in an attempt to reduce the number of Arson related crimes across the County. The campaign targets those who may know information about someone who is involved in deliberately starting fires. It encourages these people to come forward anonymously with information that could prevent danger to others lives as well as their own. Crimestoppers is a national charity covering the whole of the UK, involving the police, businesses, community leaders and others in a partnership approach to reduce crime. The key to the success of Crimestoppers is the promise of anonymity to people who want to pass on information about any crime without getting involved further. Crimestoppers also pays rewards, funded independently of the police, for information, which results in an arrest and charge. The scheme is based on a freephone number - 0800 555 111 and is available to everyone.
