Turbo Challenge III |

On 22nd March 2008, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service staff got on their bikes and cycled over 300 miles for charity without moving a single inch! Staff from across the Service joined Station Manager Mark Hobbs to clock up the miles on three static Turbo Trainer bikes outside Churchill Square Shopping Centre in Brighton. Despite having to compete with terrible weather, the event was a huge success and managed to raise an impressive £600 to be split between the Firefighters Charity and the Children’s Fire and Burns Trust. The team received fantastic support from members of the public who were encouraged by the teams colleagues, family and friends to donate money and have a go at guessing how many miles the team would cycle over the course of 6 hours. One lucky Brighton resident managed to guess the exact figure and will receive a prize from Halfords Bike Shed. Mark Hobbs, Turbo Challenge organiser commented, “The event went really well and I would like to thank all those who took part and offered support on the day, including Churchill Square Shopping Centre for providing the venue, Halfords Bike Shed, who provided sponsorship, Pret A Manger and Grints café who were on hand to offer sandwiches and refreshments for the team and of course all members of staff, friends and family who came along and offered their support and encouragement.” |
