|
|
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service extrication and trauma teams that attend national and regional United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) challenges have been trialling and evaluating the latest StabFast stabilisation equipment in order to keep up with constant developments in vehicle technology and Road Traffic Collision rescue equipment. Following UKRO challenges in Brighton 2006 and Cardiff 2007, the East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service team have been using and evaluating the latest sharps protection kit, steering wheel air bag restraints and passenger air bag restraints along with the latest in high quality battery operated reciprocating saws and blades. These new blades will enable crews to cut through extremely high strength materials. The team are also examining the Personal Protective Equipment that is worn when attending road traffic collisions and technical rescues to identify if there could be an alternative for these specific incident types. The team attend UKRO challenges on an annual basis, which provide an opportunity to share ideas and best practices in road safety and technical rescue extrication with other Fire & Rescue Services and organisations from the UK and around world. The current UKRO team will continue to look at new equipment, technology and rescue techniques to remain at the forefront of road traffic collision practices. |
