Councillor Michael Murphy re-elected as Chairman of the East Sussex Fire Authority

County Councillor Mike Murphy (Seaford, Sutton) has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Fire Authority for 2008/09. The Fire Authority voted unanimously in favour of his reappointment during a Fire Authority meeting that was held on 5th June 2008, at East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Headquarters.

Councillor Murphy joined the East Sussex Fire Authority in June 1997 and was first elected Chairman in June 2001. This will be his eighth consecutive year in post. He commented that he was extremely proud to be re-elected as Chairman of the Fire Authority and would continue to provide an efficient, life-saving service to the communities of East Sussex and the City of Brighton & Hove, whilst utilising public money in the most effective way possible.

He added; "East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service are a modern, responsive Fire & Rescue Service, fully equipped to deal with the diverse needs of all the communities of East Sussex and the City of Brighton & Hove. We are absolutely committed to driving down risk within our communities and work tirelessly to ensure everyone is safer through a wide range of community based safety initiatives.

Councillor Michael Murphy summarised by saying, "I am extremely proud to be working with such a committed and professional team of people within East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service."
