Large Fire at Warehouse in Rye |

On 10th July 2008, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Mobilising & Communication Centre received an emergency call stating that there was a fire in a commercial warehouse in Harbour Road, Rye. The initial call was received at 5.39am and two fire appliances from Rye community fire station were immediately despatched to the scene. Upon arrival, there was a serious fire underway which had engulfed a number of adjoining units. Additional fire appliances were dispatched from Broad Oak, Hastings, Battle and Bexhill. Crews from West Sussex and Kent Fire & Rescue Services were also despatched to the scene and worked in partnership with East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service extinguishing and containing the fire in order to protect nearby property. At the height of the incident 20 fire appliances were in attendance. During the incident, Des Prichard, Chief Fire Officer for East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said;
Chris Large, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, for East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service praised the crews at the scene and the staff in the Mobilising and Communication Centre for their hard work and efforts during the incident. Crews worked hard to bring the blaze under control and a significantly reduced number of firefighters remained at the scene into the evening dampening down the property. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
