The Chinese community in Brighton & Hove is one of the City's largest cultural communities and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service welcomed the Year of the Ox by attending the Chinese New Year celebrations at Hove Town Hall on 8th February.

The Service's stand at the event offered advice from Hove's Community Fire Safety team, which promoted road safety and the use of smoke alarms.

The stand, decorated with dragons and lanterns, also provided Service literature in Mandarin.

Station Managers from Hove, Roedean and Preston Circus community fire stations attended the event alongside the City Borough Commander and representatives from the Service's Mobilising & Communications Centre and HR Department.

It was estimated that over 4,000 people attended the free event, which featured an amazing range of traditional and contemporary shows including music, dragon parades and community choirs.

The event hoped to bring communities together and strengthen community cohesion by promoting an understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.
