East Sussex Fire & Service is supporting Unison's commitment to help organisations reduce their carbon footprint.

World Environment Day, held on 5th June 2009, is one way that the United Nations seeks to promote worldwide awareness of environmental issues.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service's Community Safety Team, based in the City of Brighton & Hove, will be out and about on their Street Bikes on World Environment Day.

In addition to delivering fire and road safety messages, the team will encourage the public to make more sustainable choices such as recycling, and reducing electricity wastage.

The Community Safety Team and Unison are also encouraging employees of East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service to support World Environment Day by pledging to travel to work by way of a sustainable method of transport on the 5th June. For example:

• Cycle to work
• Use public transport
• Car share with colleagues or friends who work nearby
• Walk to work
