Audit Commission Assessment Results.
The National Audit Commission published the results of the Fire and Rescue Performance Assessment (2006) on Thursday 5th April for all Fire and Rescue Services. The Audit Commissions Fire and Rescue Performance Assessments are made up of three ratings that build a clear picture of the standard of service people are receiving. As well as emergency response services and fire prevention, they judge how well Services are improving and whether they provide good value for money.
The first area that was reviewed was ´Use of resources´ which looked at the financial accounting and reporting arrangements of East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service as well as how we plan and manage our finances. This is crucial in determining whether we achieve good value for money for the people of East Sussex and the City of Brighton & Hove. The performance evaluation ranked East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service as, ´Performing well - consistently above minimum requirements.´
The second assessment included an Operational Assessment of Service Delivery, which looked at how well we respond to incidents and prevent fires from occurring, the results of which were published on February 22nd. East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service was assessed on the delivery of our service and issues such as the number and types of fires, deaths, injuries, false alarms and arson attacks within East Sussex and the City of Brighton & Hove. Again, the performance evaluation ranked East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service as ´Performing well - consistently above minimum requirements.´
The final area of assessment is the Direction of Travel, this is based on how well East Sussex has performed since the base CPA categorisation in 2005 and whether or not it is expected to improve. This area is currently being assessed for East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. The scorecard results are available in portable document format [pdf] or via the Audit Commissions website below:
