Increase in hoax calls expected as summer holidays begin.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service are gearing themselves up for an increase in hoax calls as the school holidays begin. There are generally three main factors, which come into play at this time of year. Everything tends to get dryer due to the heat, young people are out of school and subsequently, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service receive an increase in hoax calls.

The really important issue is that young people need to understand the danger of dialling 999 with a hoax call. Whilst East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service are attending to the hoax call, a real call could come in. The hoax call inevitably costs precious seconds and minutes which puts real lives in danger.

Steve Wright, Station Manager, Community Safety outlined; “At this time of year, the number of fires increases both due to dry weather and young people playing with matches. Young people should enjoy their summer holiday. Help us by ensuring that you don´t put lives at risk.”
