Marathon Ladder Carry

On September 1st, seventeen firefighters set out to carry a fire service ladder over a marathon Distance. (26.2 miles) The route took the fire crews up and down Hastings seafront and around the historic old town. The team set off from Hastings fire station just after 9.30am and walked for over 7 hours 30 mins in a bid to raise vital funds for local charities. They were joined by Chief Executive & Chief Fire Officer, Des Prichard along with Andy Reynolds, Head of Community Protection. Two of the fire crews wives also joined in. Other local firefighters and members of the Red Cross and the Loaf Project, a local based charity, also supported the ladder carriers.

During the day, a large community fire safety event took place in Hastings town centre, which was deemed an enormous success. The public watched a range of RTC demonstrations and were offered information on road safety, fire safety and home safety visits. There were also opportunities for children to dress up as firefighters and have their picture taken which seemed to go down well!

The ladder carry raised nearly £3000 for two local charities, which made the day all the more worthwhile.
