East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service are aiming to reduce the number of deliberate fires across the county with a new arson reduction strategy. 'Operation Synergy' has been working in conjunction with local businesses and residents with the aim of identifying areas in East Sussex and the City of Brighton and Hove that could be most at risk of deliberate fire setting. The Arson Reduction Team then offer free smoke alarms and important fire safety advice to those most likely to be affected by arson. The team offer a wide range of targeted advice, such as ensuring gas cylinders in restaurants and licensed premises are stored correctly. The main objectives are to improve fire safety knowledge in local communities, encourage residents to keep the neighbourhood clean and tidy, create a better environment and ultimately reduce opportunist fire setting or criminal damage. Other advice that is offered includes, making sure that doors are closed at night, ensuring your home or business has at least one working smoke alarm on each level of the building and having a fire plan covering what to do when faced with fire. Smoke alarms can save lives, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service can offer free smoke alarms and essential fire safety advice for you and your family this Christmas.
