East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service received a call at 23.29 on 25th January, from a caller who described a smell of burnt toast in residential flats in Goldstone Villas, Hove.
Prior to dialling 999, the caller had unsuccessfully tried to silence the alarm, which was in the communal stairway area. They had then called the alarm company who advised contacting the Fire & Rescue Service.
Two fire appliances were dispatched from Hove. Upon arrival, crews reported a small fire in the kitchen, which was out on arrival and rescued one male from the smoke-logged property.
If you hear a fire alarm sounding, do not attempt to silence it. Its purpose is to alert occupants of a possible fire. Always dial 999.
