Diversity, Equality & Fairness Officer,
37 hours per week.
A Diversity, Equality and Fairness Officer is sought to provide a shared resource between East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) (3 days) and Surrey Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) (2 days) to assist Senior Managers in meeting strategic and practical responsibilities with regard to equal opportunities. This post requires travel throughout the county and region and occasionally attending meetings outside of usual working hours. The postholder will promote and facilitate achievement of equality of opportunity throughout both of the service's activities. The post holder will be responsible for:
- Researching legal issues surrounding equality and diversity on behalf of senior managers of both organisations.
- Reviewing, drafting, preparing and formulating policy/procedural documentation for presentation to regional and local management.
- Maintaining an awareness of existing, forthcoming and proposed legislation relating to equality matter, providing a valid reinterpretation on current legal and employee relations issues that have equality implications, e.g. harassment.
- Organising Positive Action events in order to bring a representative balance to those employed by both organisations and building relationships with the relevant Groups and Agencies we work with in this field.
The successful candidate should be experienced in the practical application of equal opportunities policies and procedures in a large organisation with extensive knowledge of equal opportunities legislation and relevant codes of practice. A Graduate CIPD qualification, or equivalent membership of a professional body is also essential. Candidates are required to have excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to produce high quality documentation and have evidence of research based learning gained through work or study.
