Head of Community Safety
Based at Eastbourne Headquarters, 37 hours per week

At East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) we believe prevention is better than cure. Our work is about making communities safer by raising community awareness of fire and preventative measures, which could mean the difference between life and death.

ESFRS has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Community Safety to lead the Community Safety Department. This individual will be key in reducing the impact of fires and safety related incidents through the development and management of preventative initiatives across the Service. The post will be at the forefront in generating strong and effective multi-agency partnerships to support safer communities. The successful candidate will have the innovation, enthusiasm and determination to embrace and deliver an efficient and economical customer focused service. As a committed and proactive person you will be required to show that you are able to:

  • Provide leadership and vision to deliver community safety initiatives to meet targets to achieve a safer community.
  • Supervise and manage all Community Safety functions.
  • Accomplice continuous improvement in performance against National and local indicators related to fire and other emergencies.
  • Proactively seek external funding via bidding processes in order to support new initiatives on behalf of the Fire Authority.
  • Liaise on a regional basis with regard to Community Safety objectives and initiatives, as well as represent ESFRS at seminars and meetings.

Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent relevant professional qualification, and have evidence of personal high achievement and motivation. Proven experience of financial control, preparing funding applications building business cases is essential, along with an aptitude for creative and strategic thinking alongside leadership and organisational skills.

Candidates must demonstrate a considerable achievement of working at a senior management level within an organisation as well as working within the community safety environment. ESFRS serves the whole of East Sussex and the City of Brighton & Hove, therefore, the successful candidate must have mobility sufficient to carry out the necessary duties for the post.

Salary: £38,310 - £49,716 per annum (pay award pending)
