Clerk to the Fire Authority and Fire & Rescue Service,
Eastbourne Headquarters, 18.5 hours per week (Wednesday pm, Thursday & Friday)
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is looking for a person with exceptional, high quality skills to help facilitate the democratic process of the Fire Authority and Fire & Rescue Service by arranging and servicing its meetings and enabling those meetings to run efficiently and effectively.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring information is properly presented, promulgated and recorded and that progress on agreed actions are monitored in accordance with relevant legislation and procedural guidance. The postholder will also be required to undertake a similar role for the principal corporate management meeting of the Fire & Rescue Service. In addition, the Fire & Rescue Service also provides clerking support to the South East Fire Regional Management Board, but this is reviewed annually.
The successful candidate must have knowledge of the local government democratic process, the legislative requirements and the roles of councillors and be educated to degree level or equivalent or be working towards qualifications in the area of Board/Committee management and/or law. Evidence of considerable achievement at a middle management level for 2 years minimum and ability to work as part of a team is required.
Candidates must have excellent skills in the area of good practice on the conduct of meetings and experience of preparing agendas, minutes and reports with high level written and verbal communication skills and be able to work under pressure and tight deadlines. The ability to use Microsoft Office and other IT systems to develop and produce high quality documentation with fast, accurate keyboards skills is essential.
The post requires a current driving licence.
