Establishment
The Establishment is the number of posts required to make the Station fully resourced. This Station has an establishment of:-
- 1 Wholetime Firefighter (Station Manager).
- 12 Retained units.
Note: A Retained unit may be filled by more than one Retained firefighter depending upon the number hours that the firefighter can commit to.
The Retained Firefighters Drill night is Tuesday at 19.00 hrs.

The Fire Service Emergency Cover Software combines the following information to determine our "Planned Response".
- Risk to Life.
- Risk to the Built and Natural environment.
- The 2001 Census.
- Demographic people profiles.
- Information from the road network.
The Planned Response will consist of a combination of :
- Prevention - Fire Safety Education,outreach and intervention.
- Protection - Educate and promote fire safety.
- Response - Reactive Emergency actions.
The Risks are classified into five levels listed below:
- Red - Very High Risk Areas
- Orange - High Risk Areas
- Yellow - Medium Risk Areas
- Blue - Low Risk Areas
- Green - Very Low Risk Areas
The areas of risk are mapped out to include a set number of households and this often results in detailed risk catchments for inner City areas and larger risk catchments where houses are adjacent to open/rural spaces.
Station Action Plan
Each Station Area has its own particular mix of risks and problems and tools such as FSEC help to identify and quantify these Risks.
This results in specific aims and objectives per station which are incorporated into the Station Action Plan.
The Station Action Plan highlights performance over the last year and the borough targets to which this station contributes for this year.

Further Information
Burwash has one pumping appliance crewed by Retained Firefighters. The first established station in 1929 was situated in a garage at the rear of "The Bell" Public House in the High Street. The current station at Shrub Lane was Officially opened on the 30th August 2001, Burwash Community Fire Station covers an area of some 8500 hectares.
It serves the villages of Hurst Green, Salehurst, Brightling, Burwash Common, Etchingham and parts of Stonegate and Robertsbridge fall within the area. Burwash has one exception to its rural risk, the British Gypsum Mines at Brightling. Here gypsum is mined and processed.
