Stay Safe

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is prepared for possible industrial action by the Fire Brigades Union.

On 30 January 2023, the Fire Brigades Union confirmed members have voted in favour of strike action in a national dispute over pay. No dates for industrial action have been announced.

The Service already has well-rehearsed plans in place to respond to emergencies in East Sussex and Brighton and Hove if strikes are confirmed.

Chief Fire Officer Dawn Whittaker said:

“Our priority remains the safety of those living, visiting or working in East Sussex and Brighton and Hove. While we have not been informed of any dates of industrial action, we are ready and have contingency plans in place.

We would ask that businesses take this opportunity to check their fire safety measures and make sure that all staff are trained so they know what to do in an emergency. Advice can be found on our website.”
