Save the date for Hastings Community Fire Station’s special fun-filled Open Day.
The Ridge Community Fire Station in Hastings is organising a double celebration to mark both the 40th Anniversary of the station opening and their Open Day.
Don’t miss out on all the fun which is in store for residents who live nearby when the free family event takes place on 17th September from 12midday to 16.00.
Excited youngsters will be given a chance to climb aboard the fire engines and kids will be able to play firefighter for the day, as well as have fun squirting the hoses. There will also be a unique chance to see vintage fire engines and look at how firefighting equipment has changed over the years. There will also be an array of displays mapped out for the day, including live fire demonstrations.
Watch Commander Shaun Rogers said: “It’s important to hold an open day so the community can see what the fire service does. They will get to see the whole process, which will demonstrate that we do not just put out fires. They will see that we attend road traffic collisions, as well as taking emergency phone calls at the Sussex Control Centre and that every role within in the Service plays a crucial part in keeping residents safe.
“Firefighters will be there to offer free advice on home safety to help prevent future fires and the road safety team will be present to chat with visitors about road safety, such us the dangers around using mobile phones at the wheel of a vehicle and not wearing seatbelts. We will also be providing advice on water safety and drowning prevention.
“We will also be joined by 1066 First Responders who will be giving tips on CPR to keep yourselves and loved ones safe.
“The day will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Ridge fire station opening and moving from the very cramped Victorian fire station built in Priory Avenue, Halton, Hastings, Old photos and equipment displays and we hope that families will join in with our celebrations.
“It will be a fun day out with lots of fire, smoke and water. Refreshments, teas, coffees and a BBQ will also be available on the day and we look forward to a large turnout on the day.”
