East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended a serious fire at a derelict building in Hastings overnight.

We were called at 23:02 on 8 May 2019 to reports a site security guard had seen flames inside the building on The Ridge.

Four fire engines and two officers were sent to the scene.

The building is of three floors, measuring 50 metres by 30 metres.

The fire on the first floor had spread to the second floor.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, a main jet and a hose reel jet.

At around 23.30 two additional fire engines were sent to the scene, and at around 00.40 on 8 May a further two were sent, taking the total to eight fire engines.

Crews later spent time “cutting away” to ensure the fire was out.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed
