This year, Hastings Fire Station personnel will be working in partnership with ATS for October’s TyreSafe month. TyreSafe is one of the UK’s leading tyre safety organisations, dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers associated with defective or illegal tyres.
The teams will be highlighting the importance of checking your tyres for their condition, correct pressures and tread depth.
Cutting Edge Technology
Green Watch (Hastings) together with ATS will be at ASDA, Battle Road, St Leonards on 17th October between 10:30am and 12:30pm.Crews are offering a free check on customers’ tyres and ATS will be offering free professional advice and will be on hand to answer any questions which may arise.
Crews will be utilising cutting edge technology to reduce the number of illegal tyres on our roads by using a Tread Reader which will scan the depth of tread on a tyre to make sure they are road legal. This in turn, will help to reduce the number of road traffic collisions involving defective vehicle tyres. The Tread Reader will be used as an educational tool to bring it to the attention of the driver to have their tyres checked professionally by a competent tyre fitter.
Garry Alexander (Crew Manager) - Hastings said: ‘Safety is our main priority and tyres are the only part of the car which are in contact with the road. Safety in acceleration, braking, steering and cornering all depend on a relatively small area of road contact. Tread, tyre condition and correct inflation will all affect the handling of your vehicle, check them regularly.’
It needs to be stressed that the Tread Reader and Hastings Fire Station personnel are only involved in the educational side of TyreSafe month and not part of any enforcement activity.
