Weekend incident round-up 31st August and 1st September

Over the weekend, East Sussex Fire and Rescue attended a variety of incidents:-

Saturday 31st August

  • At 08:14, Bexhill firefighters attended a kitchen fire at a residential property on Ridgewood Gardens, Bexhill.  Crews used two Breathing Apparatus and one Hose Reel Jet to extinguish the fire.  Crews then used a Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan to clear the smoke.           
  • At 12:10, Uckfield firefighters attended an RTC involving two vehicles on Heathfield Road, Cross in Hand.  Crews released two people who were handed over in to the care of SECAMB.       
  • At 15:12, firefighters from The Ridge attended a bin fire on Robertson Street, Hastings.  Crews used fire buckets to extinguish the fire.          
  • At 16:04, Bexhill firefighters attended St Peters Crescent, Bexhill following reports of an unattended bonfire.  Crews used one Hose Reel Jet to extinguish the fire. 
  • At 16:33, Eastbourne firefighters attended a property on Groombridge Avenue, Eastbourne following reports of persons shut in a lift.  Crews released one person.              
  • At 19:07, firefighters from Roedean and Brighton attended a residential property on St Margarets Place, Brighton following reports of persons shut in a lift.  Crews released one person.           
  • At 19:19, firefighters from Hastings and The Ridge attended a supermarket on Battle Road, St Leonards on Sea following reports of a fire in an out building.  Crews used one Hose Reel to extinguish the fire.        
  • At 19:44, firefighters from The Ridge attended Lower Glen Road, St Leonards following reports of a fire in the open.  Crews used one Hose Reel Jet to extinguish the fire. 
  • At 20:05, firefighters from Pevensey and Eastbourne attended the A27 Pevensey Bypass following reports of a horsebox alight.  Crews used four Breathing Appsratus, two Hose Reel Jets and 1 in 7 foam to extinguish the fire.  All horses and owners were accounted for.   
  • At 22:10, firefighters from Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings, Wadhurst, Herstmonceux, Hailsham and Newhaven attended a hotel on Grand Parade, Eastbourne following reports of a kitchen fire.  On arrival, crews found a small amount of smoke in the kitchen and one oven was isolated after overheating.  Crews liaised with hotel management with regards to evacuation and assisting patrons back in to the hotel. 
  • At 23:41, Brighton firefighters attended a fire in the open on Brooks Close, Lewes.  Crews used fire buckets to extinguish the fire. 

Sunday 1st September

  • At 02:29, firefighters from Burwash and Battle attended Etchingham Railway Station, Etchingham following reports of a horsebox fire.  Crews used two Breathing Apparatus and two Hose Reels to extinguish the fire.     
  • At 10:04, Crowborough firefighters attended Church Road, Crowborough following reports of an out of control bonfire.  Crews used one Hose Reel Jet to extinguish the fire. 
  • At 10:33, firefighters from Lewes and Battle attended Malling Street, Lewes following reports of a dangerous structure.  A trailer had hit a building causing internal damage.  The Technical Response Unit from Battle attended and the trailer was recovered.  Crews made the scene safe. 
  • At 11:39, Roedean firefighters attended a residential property on Somerset Street, Brighton following reports of a flooding.  Crews isolated the leak and carried out a Home Safety Visit.   
  • At 12:38, firefighters from Roedean and Seaford attended Brighton Marina Village, Brighton following reports of persons shut in a lift.  Crews released eight people.    
  • At 12:44, firefighters from Bexhill attended a fire in the open on Combe Valley Way, Bexhill.  Crews used a flex-pack to extinguish the fire.          
  • At 13:07, firefighters from Hove and Brighton attended a residential property on Holland Mews, Brighton following reports of an electrical fire.  Crews isolated the electrics and carried out a Home Safety Visit.        
  • At 14:45, firefighters from Hove and Brighton attended a property on Fleet Street, Brighton following reports of persons shut in a lift.  Crews released one person.        
  • At 16:36, Hove firefighters assisted West Sussex Fire and Rescue in attended a fire in the open on Downside, Shoreham by Sea.  Crews used one Hose Reel Jet to extinguish the fire.     
  • At 18:04, firefighters from Hastings attended a residential property on Kenilworth Road, St Leonards on Sea following reports of a fire in the open.  Crews used one Hose Reel to extinguish an out of control bonfire. 
  • At 18:18, firefighters from Brighton supported West Sussex Fire and Rescue with extinguishing a large fire in the open on Ockley Lane, Hasocks. One bailer and hay bales were alight. Two acres of field, five tons of bailed straw and one hay bailer were destroyed by the fire.
  • At 20:52, firefighters from The Ridge, and Hastings attended an RTC involving two vehicles on Church Wood Drive, St Leonards on Sea.  Firefighters used hydraulic equipment to release one casualty who was then handed over in to the care of SECAMB.             
  • At 20:59, Eastbourne firefighters attended a fire in the open on Larkspur Drive, Eastbourne.  Crews used flex packs and one Hose Reel to extinguish the fire.
