Date : 09 January 2020

East Sussex Fire Authority is to partner with Surrey Fire and Rescue Service for its future mobilising from 2021.

Mobilising describes how East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service handles 999 calls and sends out fire engines and other appliances.

At its Extraordinary meeting on 9 January 2020, the Fire Authority considered a number of options.

After a lengthy discussion, members agreed to partner with Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, within a shared control centre based in Salfords.

This will deliver operational benefits, allowing East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to work closely not only with Surrey Fire and Rescue but West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service who already share the control centre with Surrey.

Chairman Roy Galley said:

“Every decision the Fire Authority makes puts the public first and foremost. Members of the Fire Authority have been very impressed by the thoroughness of the assessments made of our options. We now need to get on with the job and deliver an excellent service for the residents of East Sussex, Brighton and Hove. Our response times are amongst the best in the country and we intend to maintain that.”

This decision was taken by the CFA after a comprehensive review of options and taking into account how we can best serve the community with our available financial resources.

The public will see no change in our response – if you dial 999 you will get the response you need.
