Incident round-up 10 February 2020

East Sussex Fire Control have taken 82 calls between 7am yesterday (9 February) and 7am this morning.

The majority of these calls were weather-related, as a result of Storm Caira, and advice was given for 20 of these calls.

Just some of the incidents crews attended involved making safe loose scaffolding, tiles, a shop sign, tv aerial, a loose pole, across our Service area.

Here are just a few of the incidents that crews attended:

  • At 9.17 yesterday (9 February) a crew were sent to Tower Street, in Rye, due to a dangerous structure (metal sign). 
  • At 10:36 yesterday (9 February) a crew were sent to a building in Lavender Street, Brighton, which had suffered from flooding. Firefighters isolated the electrics. 
  • At 11:21 yesterday (9 February) a crew were called to make safe a dangerous structure, where a garage collapsed in Coneyburrow Gardens, St Leonards-On-Sea, where the area had to be cordoned off. 
  • At 11:52 yesterday (9 February) crews were called to a property in Tudor Rose Park, Peacehaven, where they made a shed safe. 
  • At 13.17 yesterday (9 February) a crew were sent to a chimney fire in Summer Hill lane, Hailsham, following reports of a chimney fire, which was out on arrival. 
  • At 13.50 yesterday (9 February) a crew made safe an area where a tree had fallen in a garden in Mill Road, Hailsham. 
  •  At 13:52 (9 February) a crew were sent to Neills Close, in Newhaven, after a tree fell against a house. Firefighters made the area safe. 
  • At 14.17 yesterday (9 February) firefighters were sent to a dangerous structure in Hangelton Road, Hove, involving a roof. The scene was made safe. 
  • At 14.41 yesterday (9 February) a crew were sent to Langley Shopping Centre, Eastbourne, following reports of a dangerous structure. 
  • At 16:08 yesterday (9 February) two crews, including the Aerial Ladder Platform, were sent to a property in St Johns Terrace, Lewes, after a chimney was reported to be falling down. 
  •  At 21:53  yesterday (9 February) a crew were sent to Lincoln Street, Brighton, following reports of a motorbike leaking fuel. Firefighters used an environmental pack to make the area safe. 
  •  At 23:23 yesterday (9 February) a crew were sent to Evelyn Terrace, Brighton, following reports of a small fire. A Home Safety Visit was carried out at the property. 
  • At 01:41 this morning (10 February) two crews were sent to Marine Parade, Eastbourne, following reports of wheelie bins on fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire. A Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan was used to clear smoke from the building.
