Keep Kitchen Safe in 2020

Take action in 2020 and help us reduce fires in the home, more than 50% of accidental house fires start in the kitchen.

There are several things you can do to prevent fires in the kitchen, find out what you can do to keep kitchen safe.

This reminder follows a kitchen fire in Hastings yesterday (2ndJanuary).

At 16.42 yesterday two Hastings crews were sent to a small kitchen fire in a flat in Elphinstone Close, Hastings. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire. A Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan was used to clear smoke from the property.

Other overnight incidents: 

  • At 21.20 yesterday (2nd January) a crew were sent to a chimney fire in Southwater Road, St Leonards-on-Sea. No action was required by firefighters but advice was given. 
  • At 1.05 this morning (3 January) firefighters were sent to a small fire in Carfax Close, Bexhill, following reports of a fire in a wooded area. On arrival a small fire was located in the open. Firefighters extinguished the fire. 
  • At 2.17 this morning (3 January) a crew were mobilised to a rubbish bin fire in Willowfield Square, Eastbourne, where they used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. 
  • Overnight our crews were sent to a number of false alarms in Lewes, Brighton, Hastings, Laughton, Eastbourne and Newhaven. Please help us to reduce false alarms.
