East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is thanking everyone who has supported Eastbourne firefighters in their eight day 1000 mile charity fundraiser.
At 8pm on Thursday 4th June 2020 in time for the Clap for Carers, they reached the end of the challenge. Through a mix of running around the Station, treadmills, cross trainers and an array of fancy dress outfits all four Watches pulled together to ensure the mileage continued to be clocked up 24 hours a day. There are some very sore legs and feet but as a result of all the hard work a total of 1290 miles was covered for the event!
There has been some fantastic support from the local community and further afield, particularly as this was held as a ‘closed event’ due to the current situation, examples included a local take away donating meals for the participants and a welcome delivery of ice creams from an ambulance crew.
A lot of generosity has been shown and over £3000 has been raised so far for the worthy charities being supported by the event. These being the Fire Fighters Charity, Eastbourne Mencap and NHS charities, donations are still coming in and can be made online at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=EastbourneFirefighters&pageUrl=1&isTeam=true
