East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service works with the other emergency services and agencies each year to deliver award-winning Safety in Action events to nearly 6,000 children.
The aim of these popular educational events is to help keep the children safe, as well as increase awareness of potential hazards. However, due to social distancing measures, put in place by the Government, this means that Safety in Action will be delivered in an alternative way.
During these challenging times with Covid-19 will are still committed to delivering key safety messages, albeit virtually, to provide children with vital information, which could save their life.
This year, we want to ensure that students still receive safety messages from our Education Team, especially for year 6 children, who may be making the transition to secondary school or greater independence in September.
We are currently covering a different safety topic each week. The material includes word searches, spot the hazards and ‘fill in the gap’ style worksheets that can be sent out via email to the parents and carers. This will be supported by messages of support from our Education Team, alongside our partners, to guide them through the material that they will receive.
There has already been positive feedback received from Year 6 teachers:
“The children really enjoyed last week's sheet for their Life skills home learning and have already asked for more!”
“Thanks so much for forwarding all your recent ideas and resources. Our children are loving them!”

Please note that these resources are designed for children aged 10 to 12 years old, however some of the ideas and materials can be adapted for children of other ages.
