Introducing our new on-call firefighters
On 12th November, six new retained (on-call) firefighters joined East Sussex Fire and Rescue after intensive training at our Service Training Centre. The new recruits were trained by Watch Manager David Brown, Crew Manager Matthew Harrison and Crew Manager James Peel.
CM James Peel: “Given this course had added elements to it, the trainees did well to perform throughout. Every single delegate put in 100% effort and enthusiasm, which led to all six passing successfully. I am confident that the positive attitude they showed during their training will be carried forward to their home stations. I wish them luck with their future development and responding within the community.”
CM Matt Harrison: “I thoroughly enjoyed working with these new firefighters to make sure they were safe to respond operationally. I think they performed well on both theory and practical input and I look forward to hearing how they are enjoying responding for East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service! “
We would like to give a warm welcome to our new recruits and wish them all the best for their retained career.

Interested in being an on-call firefighter?
On-call firefighters are ordinary people that combine their day jobs with being on call for Fire and Rescue situations and emergencies. When the call comes in, they drop what they are doing and become part of the East Sussex Fire and Rescue team.
It's a huge commitment, but an immensely rewarding way to serve the community, keep the public safe and earn an extra income.
