We remain at the scene of a serious fire at a recycling site in Lewes.
We were called at 5.05 this morning 9 April 2021 to Southerham Lane.
As of 7.30 we have six fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, and two water carriers along with the command support unit on scene.
Approximately 250 tonnes of scrap metal is alight.
There are no reports of injuries and steady progress is being made.
Our control centre is dealing with multiple 999 calls as the smoke plume can be seen from a long way away.
Locals and motorists are advised to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed because of the significant amount of smoke in the area.
