Safety in Action events encourage children to recognise hazards and take action to keep themselves and others safe.

Simulated scenarios allow children to interact with members of the emergency services and think about safe responses to a variety of different situations in order to keep themselves and others safe.

The project is aimed at year 6 children (age 10 and 11 years) – before they make the step to secondary school and greater independence.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue, Sussex Police, School Nurse team, Southern Rail and others are all working together to teach children about safety and crime prevention.

Each child taking part will receive a participation certificate and information relating to safety issues. This is a free event.

Children must be accompanied by their parent/carer or teacher. Siblings outside the age range are welcome but must be closely supervised by the parent or carer.

Partnership and Engagement Business Partner, Sophie Hepworth, said: “We have had an excellent response to invitations for children to attend our Safety in Action events in the Brighton and Hove area. More than 300 children will be attending these events in May.”
