Kings Road fire update

Date : 25 January 2022

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is likely to be on the scene of a fire on Brighton seafront for some time.

We were called at 18.00 today (25 Jan 2022) to reports of flames and smoke coming from a manhole.

As of 21.45, two fire engines are on Kings Road while work is carried out to try to isolate utilities as gas is being burnt off by the flames.

Nearby buildings have been evacuated and a cordon is in place.

There are no reports of injuries.

Steady progress is being made but it may still be several hours before the incident draws to a close.

People are asked to avoid the area.  If you usually use the route during the morning rush hour, please plan alternative routes and allow extra time in case the cordons remain in place.

The cause hasn't been confirmed however it's being treated an electrical fire.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience and our partners, including Sussex Police, the local authority and power companies for working alongside us.
