Update on Southerham fire

Date : 19 March 2022

We remain at the scene of a serious fire at a recycling site in Lewes.

We were called at 19:40 today (19th March 2022) to Southerham Lane.

As of 21:30 we have eight fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, along with the command support unit on scene.

Approximately 100 tonnes of scrap metal is alight.

There are no reports of injuries and steady progress is being made.

The fire is creating a smoke plume, locals and motorists are advised to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed.
