Another busy weekend for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

Over the weekend of 04 and 05 November East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended 26 flood related calls. Of those calls, 9 people had to be rescued from vehicles stuck in floodwater. There were a number of animal rescues including 5 ponies rescued from water, and a landslide incident in St-Leonards- on-Sea.

Despite the weather, Lewes Bonfire Night went well, a testament to the amount of planning and preparation with our partners, and there were no significant incidents during the celebrations.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer David Norris said: “We would like to thank our firefighters and officers who have worked tirelessly this weekend attending various calls including numerous water rescues and ensuring the safety of our communities. We are committed to protecting and serving our communities and we urge the public to be equally committed to their own safety, by following our safety advice around flooding.”

Flood advice and Road Safety

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service emphasises the pressing need for public awareness and precaution, reminding motorists of the dangers of driving through flood water, after being called to a number of incidents, where cars have become trapped in flood water.
