Cornwallis Gardens Hastings

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called at 11.24pm on 19 December 2024 to reports of smoke coming from a flat on Cornwallis Road, Hastings.

As of 11.50pm four fire engines and officers were at the scene.

Crews are using six breathing apparatus, a main jet, a hose reel jet and firefighting foam.

Please avoid the area while we work.

Update: 00.10am 20 December

Gas and water supplies to the property have been isolated.

Police and ambulance are also in attendance.

Update: 00.30am 20 December

Two further fire engines were requested to increase the number of breathing apparatus wearers to eight.

The fire is now out.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.

Everyone from the property has now been accounted for.

Crews are damping down and turning debris over to ensure any remaining hot spots are dealt with.

A total of ten breathing apparatus have been used during this incident. One hose reel jet remains in use.
