East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called at 12.00pm on 15 August 2024 to reports of a fire in the yard of a property in Birch Road, Eastbourne.
We currently have four fire engines on scene. Crews are using four breathing apparatus, one main jet and two hosereel jets to tackle the fire.
As a precaution we are advising local residents and businesses to please close windows and doors and for members of the public to please avoid the area.
Sussex Police are also in attendance controlling traffic.
UPDATE as of 2.24pm: The incident is scaling down to one fire engine. Crews are damping down and turning over to ensure the fire is completely out.
Update as of 2.58pm: Crews are continuing damping down and turning over with one hosereel jet in use.
UPDATE: We left the scene at approximately 6.50pm. The damage was limited to outdoor structures. The cause of the fire was accidental, where rubbish had caught alight.
