East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to a flat fire in Preston Drove, in Brighton, on Monday (28 July) at 20.04.
Residents evacuated and four appliances attended, alongside a control unit. All persons accounted for. One casualty rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and left in the care of the ambulance service.
At the height of the fire six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using a hose reel jet, one main and one covering jet.
A Positive Pressure Ventilation fan was later used to clear smoke from the building and by 21.30 the incident was scaled back to three appliances.
Members of the public were asked to avoid the area and, if in the local area, to keep all windows and doors closed. Crews remained at the scene to monitor for any hot spots and the stop message came in at 21.41. A fire investigation is now underway.
