East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at 16.53 today 13 October 2023 to reports of the smell of burning and loud bangs from the kitchens at Powdermill Hotel, Powdermill Lane, Battle.
As of 17.30 crews are on scene and investigating.
Everyone has been accounted for and the premises have been evacuated.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.
UPDATE 17.55
It is believed there had been a small, accidental fire which was out when crews arrived.
They used a thermal imaging camera to check the area and are now preparing to leave the scene.
