Merryweather Restoration Fundraiser receives overwhelming support from the Public

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is thrilled to express our heartfelt gratitude to the generous individuals and businesses who have rallied behind our cause to restore an iconic piece of firefighting history, the Merryweather Fire Engine.

Thanks to your remarkable contributions and unwavering support, we have made significant strides in our mission to preserve this treasured relic of our firefighting heritage.

Your donations have allowed us to initiate the restoration process and bring us one step closer to returning the Merryweather Fire Engine to its former glory, reflecting the strong bond that exists between our fire service and the communities we serve.

Fundraising events

Crews from Bexhill Fire Station have shown real team effort and been working hard to fundraise for both the Firefighters Charity and the Merryweather Fire Engine. This has seen a number of events organised and attended including several car washes, supported by our Fire Cadets, with the most recent car wash raising an incredible £1001.00.

We are closing in on our target and will be embarking on further events as the year comes to a close, including a fun for all the family Halloween Spooktacular at Bexhill on 30th and 31st October. Keep an eye on our social media pages and What's on | East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (esfrs.org) to find out more!

We still need your support!

Our work is not yet complete, and we need continued support to fully realise our vision for the 1895 horse-drawn historic fire engine. Despite the progress made, we still require additional funds to make it safe, return it to its former glory and ensure its continued significance for future generations. The fundraiser will enable the engine to be used at community events, ultimately residing at Bexhill Museum.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and Bexhill Museum invite all members of the community to support this bid or simply spread the word. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant impact on our journey to preserve this symbol of our firefighting heritage.

We are immensely grateful for the contributions so far and look forward to the day when we can proudly showcase the fully restored Merryweather Fire Engine to the public. Together, we can make it happen!
