East Sussex Fire Authority is pleased to announce it has appointed Mark Matthews as Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Mark is currently the serving Assistant Chief Fire Officer.
Fire Authority Chair Cllr. Amanda Evans said:
“We had a very strong field of candidates who went through a robust and challenging process, including interviews with members, engagement panel sessions with key partners and colleagues within the Service, as well as a Level 4 Incident Command assessment.
It is with great pleasure that we confirm the appointment of Mark, who we are confident will lead our much valued public service through the next era with vision and authentic leadership"
In accepting the offer, Mark said:
“I am extremely proud and privileged to have been afforded the opportunity to lead the Service I am so committed to. Working alongside the dedicated staff of ESFRS, in our united purpose to safeguard those we are entrusted to protect is a continuing honour.
I would like to recognise our current Chief, Dawn Whittaker, whose unwavering contribution and brave leadership, both nationally and locally, has been an inspiration to many of us across the service and the sector.
I intend to build on our strong history and, with support from colleagues and partners, continue to adapt to the needs of our communities to keep them safe.”
Mark will officially commence the role on 01 January 2025 when our current Chief Fire Officer, Dawn Whittaker retires.
