Weather related incidents

Date

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is asking people to avoid travelling as Storm Henk sweeps through, and to make sure they call the right organisation if they need help.

A Met Office yellow warning of rain remains in place however high winds are also causing problems.

If you have to drive, we ask that you follow the Met Office advice, which includes not driving through flood water and using main roads as they are less likely to be affected by fallen trees.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service doesn't attend all weather related incidents - for example your local council can help with blocked drains.

We attended the following incidents between noon and 4pm on 2 February 2024.

At 1.24pm, we were called to Marina Bexhill to reports of a panel coming off a building, and further loose panels. We liaised with the building management company and scaffolding company to make the area safe.

At 2.37pm we were called to Wych Cross in Forest Row where a tree had fallen on a car.
Two people were freed from the car and left in the care of ambulance crews and the air ambulance.

At 2.56pm we were called to Magdalen Road, St Leonards to reports of loose scaffolding on a roof.
We made the area safe and alerted the scaffolding company to attend the scene.

At 3.01pm we were called to reports of a tree hanging on electrical cables by Wadhurst Bridge.
Crews used an electric saw to make the area safe.

The following incident is not believed to have been weather related, however is a good example of why you should expect the unexpected on the roads! At 3.12, we were called to Nevill Green, Uckfield to reports of an escaped horse running up the road. Crews attended, looked after the horse and contacted the owner.
