This week marks Fire Door Safety Week (23-27 September 2024), an initiative by the British Woodworking Federation designed to highlight the vital role that fire doors play in protecting lives and property in the event of a fire. At the heart of this campaign is the message that everyone, from manufacturers to building users, has a responsibility to ensure that fire doors are maintained, inspected, and understood for the protection they offer. A fire door can be the difference between life and death in a fire, and ensuring they are fit for purpose is everyone’s duty.
As part of our ongoing commitment to fire safety, we are pleased to announce the launch of a recorded webinar which took place on 19 September, hosted by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. This timely and informative session targeted business owners and Responsible Persons in workplaces and high-rise buildings. The webinar addressed key fire safety issues, including inspection and enforcement procedures, recent legislative changes, and steps to improve compliance and reduce risk.
During the session, Area Manager for Protection, George O’Reilly provided a detailed overview of the changing legislative landscape since the tragic Grenfell Tower disaster in 2017. He explained the critical aspects of current legislation and compliance, offering attendees practical advice and guidance and said:
“It is really encouraging to see people joining our fire safety webinars from a range of business types. Moving forwards we aim to deliver more targeted webinars and information around small businesses and care homes and welcome input and feedback to shape our webinar delivery sessions for the future. Thank you to all those who attended.”
A Q&A session that followed allowed participants to ask questions specific to their premises and fire safety responsibilities.
