Year 5 Key Stage 2

Lesson Duration. 1 hour

The design and style of the lesson is based upon progressive learning and takes into account the children's different learning abilities.

Key Stage 5 resources
  • This session lasts for approximately 1 hour and reminds the children to the dangers of fire whilst expanding on the dangers associated with heat and smoke

  • The children will learn about smoke alarm testing and escape exit plans

  • The lesson is again designed around an interactive presentation involving every child and their teachers

  • The lesson is driven by the involvement in the children at all stages and a session in role-play

Learning Outcomes 

At the end of the lesson pupils will;

  • Understand what hazards could start fires or harm them at home, at school or in the environment.

  • Understand the value of keeping themselves safe and the part they can play in that.

  • Know what to do if they hear a smoke alarm / fire alarm and how to get help in different situations
