Railway Safety

Railway Safety

In 2020 there was an increase to 316 near misses with pedestrians at level crossings. This is the second highest level since the time series began in 2002-03.

During the first months of the lockdown, trespassing on Britain’s railways increased by 25%. There continues to be frequent reports of young people trespassing on the railway, putting their lives at risk.

A survey carried out on behalf of Network Rail and the British Transport Police (BTP), suggests there is a lack of knowledge about the dangers of the railways among young people.

Safety in Action events promote Alcohol Safety with the support of GTR, Network Rail & Southeast Communities Rail Partnership.
